MGH document delivery service - supplying your research

The Monumenta Germaniae Historica provide an electronic copy delivery service for non-monographic publications in our library on a pay-by-use basis. The service is primarily intended to assist private scholarly research and may not be used for commercial purposes.

Simply research the document in the MGH OPAC. All deliverable titles will appear listed with a button enabling you to place an order. Copies will be delivered via a link as digital download in PDF format within three work days (Monday to Friday, not including holidays). The link has a limited validity of seven days.

Copyright regulations

Please note that in placing a document delivery order, you agree to comply with the applicable copyright regulations, in particular with those entailed in the German copyright law (Urheberrechtsgesetz) § 53a governing reproductions for private and other usage. In accordance with the General Agreement on Document Delivery (Gesamtvertrag Kopiendirektversand) § 2, you are obliged to erase electronically delivered documents from your computer after printing them.

What can be ordered?

You may order copies of articles and papers from all journals and anthologies (such as anniversary publications and congress papers) listed in our OPAC. As determined by German copyright law (Urheberrechtsgesetz § 53a) copyright restrictions may apply to articles in journals published by publishers with their own delivery conditions. We will inform you if this is the case. Please note that we are not able to process large orders. In this case, we will refer your request to the Subito delivery service offered by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. If we are not able to carry out your order for reasons of conservation or because of technical or other difficulties, we will inform you without delay.

How to place an order – selecting a title

In the MGH library OPAC, the link "document delivery" (Dokumentenlieferung) indicates if a title may be ordered for delivery.  Clicking the link connects you with an online order form in which the bibliographic details of the journal or anthology are automatically supplemented. In some cases, it may be necessary to supply additional information (such as the name of the author, the title of the document, the pages required or the year of publication) in order to ensure that you receive the correct document. For articles in journals with pre-recorded data, it is only necessary to to fill in your personal data.

Technical requirements

Use of the document delivery service requires a valid e-mail address to which the documents will be sent. Furthermore, you will need a computer with internet access in order to place orders, since this can only be done through the MGH OPAC. Additionally, the service requires an installed version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 4 and upwards).

To receive documents, you must provide us with your complete address information (postal address and e-mail address) when placing your order.

Payment

Our copy prices follow the price list for “User group 1” as defined by the international Subito document delivery service. We reserve the right to charge additional prices for orders that are not filed using the MGH OPAC or involving complicated material. For large orders or oversees orders (in particular to non-EU countries), we may ask for advance payment. This can cause some delays. Payments may be made by credit card or PayPal. Please ask your bank about additional fees which may apply.
