On 20 January two hundred years ago, the Monumenta Germaniae Historica were founded. We will be celebrating our bicentennial with all due ceremony in Berlin, Munich, Rome and Vienna. Beside various formal celebrations, we will be holding an open house in the Munich institute on 27. June, a colloquium on 28-29 June, and a symposium in November. The corresponding jubilee publication "Making the Middle Ages readable" will appear in print in summer 2019.
We warmly invite you to attend our jubilee events! For more information on the MGH jubilee year celebrations and how to register for the individual events, please consult the bicentennial programme.
N.B. Punctually on the date of our jubilee, the weekend edition of the Süddeutsche Zeitung 19/20.01.2019 published an informative article by Wolfang Görl entitled "Das Gedächtnis des Mittelalters" dealing with history and the scholarly mission of the MGH.
