The MGH section Diplomata is at work at the Austrian Institut für Österreichische Geschichtsforschung in Vienna preparing the edition of the charters of Emperor Henry VI (1165-1197) for publication in tomes 11, 1-2 of the Diplomata series "Die Urkunden der deutschen Könige und Kaiser". When complete, the volumes will contain editions of ca. 800 charters and deperdita issued during Henry VI’s rule as Roman-German King and Emperor.
To shorten the wait for the printed publication, the MGH has been making digital pre-print editions progressively available online since 2011. The pre-print editions previously released comprise the charters of Henry VI for recipients in the present-day states of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, and in in the Italian regions of Liguria, Lombardy, Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Sicily, Calabria, Basilicata, Apulia, Campania, Molise and Abruzzo. In addition, we are now proud to announce the release of pre-print editions of Henry VI’s charters addressed to recipients in Belgium, Holland, and Luxemburg, as well as Henry VI’s letters to the popes.
Now comprising some 600 texts and being successively supplemented, the MGH pre-print editions of the charters Emperor Henry VI document the progress of the edition work and make it available for interested users in advance of the printed publication.
