International Guests Visit The MGH

In the last weeks, two groups of international guests visited the MGH institute to learn more about the history and development of our 200-year old edition enterprise. They were informed about the Monumenta’s editorial programme and digital products and were very impressed by the excellent research infrastructure.

On August 26, the Monumenta Germaniae Historica was a highlight of the traditional study trip of the Deutsches Historisches Institut of Paris for students of medieval history led by Dr. Amélie Sagasser. The young scholars had the chance to become acquainted with the MGH and were particularly interested in research scholarships at the Munich institute. Besides the MGH, the excursion planned to visit other central institutions for medieval studies in Munich including the Bayerisches Hauptstaatsarchiv, the Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, and the Historisches Kolleg.

On September 5, a group of 24 participants in the 15th international colloquium on Late and Vulgar Latin (Latin vulgaire – latin tardif XV), which convened this year in Munich at the Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften, took the opportunity to visit the MGH on a guided tour through the institute. The excursion with visitors from Romania, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Serbia, Spain, and the Czech Republic was accompanied by Prof. Maria Selig, the vice-president of the Comité international pour l’étude du latin vulgaire et tardif, who had organised the Munich congress. Commenting on the tour, Prof. Selig wrote: „We were very impressed by the library and by the MGH’s close cooperation with Latin scholars, as exemplified by the MGH series Poetae and Ludwig Traube, whose bust stands in the MGH institute and to whom we dedicated one of the conference rooms during the congress.“ („Wir waren sehr beeindruckt von der Bibliothek - und natürlich von der engen Zusammenarbeit der MGH mit den Latinistinnen und Latinisten, etwa ablesbar an der MGH-Reihe der Poetae und Ludwig Traube, dessen Büste bei Ihnen steht und dem wir während des Kongresses einen der Vortragsräume widmeten.“)
