A recent weekend edition of the Süddeutsche Zeitung (26/27.8.2023, p. R7) contained an article featuring Prof. Dr Christof Paulus’ research on the written source material on Woiwoda Vlad III Drăculea of Wallachia in modern-day Romania, the infamous historical figure behind the Dracula legend known for his gruesome cruelty to friend and foe alike.
Interested readers will find more about this spine-chilling subject in volume 67 of the MGH series Studien and Texte published by Gabriele Annas and Christof Paulus in 2020. The volume was inspired by a collection of source material in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and the Stadtarchiv Augsburg, the so-called „German reports“ (Deutsche Berichte) about the misdeeds of the Wallachian prince, which are published here in critical edition together with a study on their content, transmission and reception history.
