Under the title „Zwischen Personengeschichte und Institutsgeschichte: Die MGH von 1919 bis 1959“ (Between personal and institutional history: The MGH from 1919 to 1959), the Monumenta Germaniae Historica held a working conference at the Akademie für Politische Bildung in Tutzing from October 27 to 29, 2023. In discussion with representatives of other research institutions, the conference tackled problems and approaches in dealing with their own institutional history.
Since their 200th jubilee in 2019, the MGH have intensified the study of their own history in the 20th century, focusing in particular on the Monumenta’s involvement in the Nazi dictatorship. Step for step, these efforts aim at laying the groundwork for writing the history of the MGH in the 20th century.
The conference papers will be published in 2024 in the MGH series: Studien zur Geschichte der Mittelalterforschung.
